In a recent survey conducted among AT5 readers, a notable trend emerged indicating a growing discontent among North Hollanders towards expatriates in major cities. Amsterdam, in particular, hosts expats constituting over 10% of the population, yet their involvement in city policy-making is minimal. The root issue lies in the challenge many expats, immigrants, statushouders, refugees and international students face in connecting with local politics: how does Dutch democracy work, how to get involved? This fosters a sense of separation and alienation among newcomers.

Workshop series
In an effort to bridge this gap and provide newcomers with the opportunity to comprehend their rights and actively engage in the political landscape of the Netherlands, we have initiated a workshop series commencing on March 3rd, 2024. This program comprises four half-day workshops, each lasting five hours, inclusive of lunch. The workshops delve into diverse facets of political participation and integration in Amsterdam, with a communal meal to encourage socializing and networking, followed by creative re-enactment of actual policy developments.

Feel free to participate in one or more sessions. This is a Tugela85 program so expect creativity, a healthy meal and a warm group to share experience and knowledge with.
